Greetings from Munich! It's the first rainy day today for this week so there's a chance to hang around in front of the computer for a change. The week has been full of highlights so far... I don't know where to start! ;)
We arrived Saturday and made a long break in Nuremberg for coffee and dinner. We had a first of many drinks outside! Hard to imagine considering there was constant rain in September so far and we had left Düsseldorf in the morning in the pouring rain!
On Sunday the weather got even better so after lunch we immediately left the house to spend some time in the Biergarten am Chinesischen Turm in Englischer Garten. A Radlermass, Blasmusik and the sunny weather made us stay for quite a while before we met Bea to have dinner at Cava in Westend. Before going to bed we had one cocktail at Juleps. Enough for today, we need our energy for tomorrow!
Monday was our designated Wies'n Day. I met Bea in town and we had Weißwurst for breakfast at Augustiner. As it was sunny and warm again we sat ourside of course! Afterwards we met Thomas at Stachus and went straight to the Oktoberfest where we spent the next few hours in Hofbräu-Tent drinking beer and having a great time together with the people around us ... from Luxemburg, the US, Canada, Saarland, Weserbergland, South Africa, Australia etc etc. After 3.5 litres of beer we had to leave, otherwise Bea would have taken a pic of every guy in the tent ;) We had a snack, I got my gingerbread heart and a "Spezihalbe" at Schottenhamel made us sober again so we could meet Ulf. After a stroll around the Wiesn and a ride on "Krinoline", our favourite carousel, we went home quite late.
On Tuesday it was time to leave town. It was a beautiful late summer day so we got on the car and went to Tegernsee and Achensee. What a gorgeous scenery with Indian summer colours! From the southern end of Achensee we took the country road towards Kufstein, made an icecream break in Rattenberg and finally had one of the best Schnitzels in the world, the one at Auracher Löchl in Kufstein. The garlic soup I had as starter was world class as well! Afterwards we went to Thomas' family summer house in Nussdorf and relaxed in front of the telly.
On Wednesday we took it easy in the morning so that Thomas could say good bye to the summer house which will probably be sold soon. We then took a steep private route through the mountains to get to Schliersee where we took a break on a terrace overlooking the lake. Goodness, it was hotter than in July here! We then drove back to Munich where we met Bigs, Dorit and Ulf at Aumeister Biergarten to enjoy the last sunshine. We had (an unimpressive) dinner at "Alter Simpl" and called it a day early.
Thursday started with a little shopping trip to Riem Arkarden where Bigs and Thomas were more successful than me. Afterwards we brought the car home and went to Wiesn. The plan was to stroll around Wiesn, take pictures and go and see the "Teufelsrad" finally. And to have only one beer in a tent to show Bigs what Oktoberfest is all about. Of course this plan was an accident waiting to happen ;) We took a few pics and went straight to the tents again. We decided not to spend our time with the youngfellas in the Hacker Zelt and went back to our beloved Hofbräu where we had one quiet beer before we met so many funny people at our table (From the US, Bavaria (!), Switzerland, Ireland and Australia) that we stayed for a few more beers. In the end we were drunk again and needed food before going to the Crowded House concert at Elser-Halle. We sent Thomas home and ate at Bella Italia (outside even!) to sober up a bit. My feet hurt but the concert afterwards was excellent. The crowd was 50% Australian, Neil Finn & Co were in a good mood and the songs were as beautiful as always, esp. an accoustic version of "4 seasons in one day". It's great to have seen them again after so many years. I went home around midnight on sore feet.
Anyway, today is Friday. It's raining and I haven't left the house yet. Later we're off to see a video art exhibition at Lenbachhaus. Tonight we have to drink Cocktails. I think when I am back in Düsseldorf I won't drink anything for the rest of the year. Oh well, I will be broke anyway ;)
